Technical AI SEO: an AI-Ready Website

Short answer

What is technical AI SEO?

Technical AI SEO makes sure search engines and AI crawlers can access, render, index and interpret your website – covering robots.txt and crawler access, rendering, site architecture, internal linking, structured data and performance.

  • AI crawlers allowed where you want discovery
  • Content in the HTML, not hidden behind scripts
  • Clean architecture and internal links
  • Valid structured data and fast pages

Technical AI SEO services

Artificial AI SEO provides technical AI SEO services that make your website ready for AI-driven search. We make sure search engines and AI crawlers can access, render, index and interpret your pages – the prerequisite for rankings, featured snippets and citations in Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity.

AI discovery still depends on access

If a crawler cannot fetch or render a page, it cannot be indexed, retrieved or cited. OpenAI documents OAI-SearchBot as the crawler for ChatGPT search; Perplexity uses PerplexityBot; Google’s AI features rely on Googlebot and normal indexing. Your robots.txt, firewall rules, server responses and rendering decide what each system can see. Many sites block AI search crawlers by accident through CDN bot protection.

What our technical AI SEO audit covers

  • AI crawler optimization: access for Googlebot, Bingbot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User and PerplexityBot, verified in server logs. See AI Crawler List: User Agents Every Site Owner Should Know.
  • Robots.txt for AI search: a deliberate policy that separates search crawlers from training crawlers. See Robots.txt for AI Crawlers: Search Bots vs Training Bots.
  • Rendering and JavaScript SEO: important content present in server-rendered HTML. See JavaScript SEO for AI Crawlers.
  • Indexing: coverage, canonicals, duplicates, redirects and XML sitemaps. See Indexing Issues That Block AI Visibility.
  • Structured data: valid schema that matches visible content. See Schema Markup for AI Search: What Helps and What Doesn’t.
  • Site architecture and internal linking: logical hubs and clusters with links up, sideways and down. See Internal Linking for AI Search: Up, Sideways and Down.
  • Core Web Vitals: fast, stable pages on every device. See Core Web Vitals and AI Search.
  • Multimodal SEO: images, video and alt text for visual and multimodal search. See Multimodal SEO: Images and Video for AI Search.

Snippet controls and AI features

Google applies snippet controls such as nosnippet and max-snippet to AI features as well as regular snippets. Old directives left over from migrations can quietly remove pages from AI Overviews. We audit them page by page.

Site architecture for AI search

A clear architecture helps crawlers find everything and helps AI systems understand how topics relate. We organise content into pillars and clusters, remove orphan pages, consolidate duplicates and design URL structures that reflect your services and topics.

How technical fixes are delivered

We prioritise issues by impact and effort, write clear tickets for your developers (or implement them on WordPress directly), and verify every fix after release. Our full checklist is published in Technical AI SEO Audit Checklist.

Technical AI SEO and the rest of the framework

Technical work unlocks everything else: Entity SEO depends on valid structured data, AEO and GEO depend on content being readable, and AI Search Visibility depends on crawlers reaching your pages. Start with an AI SEO Audit.

Frequently asked questions

Does blocking GPTBot remove me from ChatGPT search?

OpenAI documents OAI-SearchBot as its search crawler, separate from GPTBot. Blocking only GPTBot is intended to opt out of training, not search – check the current documentation when you decide.

Is schema required for AI Overviews?

Google says there is no special markup required for AI features; standard SEO best practices apply. Schema still helps clarity.
